Roar-some Dinosaur Day Ideas

Dinosaur Day is a staple celebration here at KCS with a multitude of ways it can be brought into the classroom. We’ve put together some ROAR-some ideas to spark your imagination!

Dinosaur dig:

Here’s an idea which only requires cornstarch, water and dinosaur figures! Why not let your children become archaeologists for the day? Simply mix 2 cups of cornstarch with 1 cup of water, add in the dinosaur figures, then let to set for 48 hours. Not only does this allow for the development of fine motor skills, it also educates kids on the idea of fossils.

We mixed our cornstarch with a spoonful of cocoa powder to give a delicious smell and to replicate the look of mud!

Pasta painting:

This simple idea allows children to create their own dinosaurs using cardboard, pasta and PVA. Create different textures using various shapes of pasta, then allow them to paint over the dried pieces to produce a masterpiece! This is also the perfect way to educate children on the different species of dinosaur.

Tuff tray:

Tuff trays are a fabulous way of creating a sensory experience for your child. They can also be created with any materials you have lying around the house, the more creative the better. Here’s a dinosaur tuff tray which we created, fit for a Jurassic adventure!

Paper plate Dinosaurs:

This simple activity allows children to practise their cutting skills. Simply allow them to paint a plate which has been folded in half with any colour. Then draw out the dinosaur head, spikes and a tail for them to cut out. Lastly, add a googly eye for extra personality.

Ice eggs:

Ice eggs are the perfect way to engage toddlers with a fun sensory experience. As a well as this, they allow you to introduce the idea of freezing and melting. Team the eggs up with pipettes of warm water and watch as your little ones break the dinosaurs free.

If you try out any of these activities tag us in your photos @kcssocial and @kcsearlyyears!
