15th edition of the FIH Hockey’s Men’s World Cup
50 years of existence
The first edition took place in 1971, so over five decades of this global hockey competition, uniting Hockey fanatics from across the globe as well as showcasing elite performance and sportsmanship. This 15th edition is taking place in Odisha-India. The fourth time India will be hosting this event, they’re also one of three nations that have competed in the previous fourteen editions.
2023 Hockey Men’s World Cup Overview
Sixteen nations will compete in this tournament.
Pool A: Argentina,Australia, France, South Africa
Pool B: Belgium, Germany, Japan ,South Korea
Pool C: Chile, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand
Pool D: England,India,Spain, Wales
The competition begins on the 13th of January and the final takes place on the 29th January.There are four groups which will lead to three group stage matches, that shall filter teams down to the knock out stages based off of what nation tops their group and second and third place of each group will have to compete against one another to advance in the tournament.
England will be looking to make their mark and progress after coming fourth in the 2018 Hockey world cup. Head coach Paul Revington has stated the squad has grown and is determined to showcase an improved level of performance compared to 2018.
