We know how easy it is to run out of ways to keep entertained during the holidays, but don’t worry we have got you covered! Here’s some fun and messy recipes which can be made using items already laying around the house.
These ideas can be used for children of all ages and can be incorporated into lots of messy play activities. So roll up your sleeves, grab your mixing bowl and get messy!
Homemade Playdough:
Method:
1)In a large container, mix together the flour and salt.
2) Mix the water, a few drops of food colouring and oil together in a separate container.
3) Then add the coloured water into the dry mix and stir using a spoon.
4) You may find at this point that the mixture is too sticky. Add extra flour a spoonful at a time to make the mixture more firm.
5) Add extra drops of food colouring to achieve the desired intensity of colour.
6) Cover a table with a light dusting of flour, then begin to knead the dough for around 3 minutes. A perfect, mouldable dough should be created.
7) To make sure the dough doesn’t dry out, always store it in a Tupperware box or zip lock bag.
8) Have fun playing with your new homemade playdough!
Unicorn Foam:
Method:
1) Add the water to a large bowl or dish.
2) Place the soap in various areas around the container.
3) Using the whisk, mix together vigorously until a thick foam is created.
4) Add drops of assorted colours across the surface of the mixture, then taking a fork, gently stir in concentrated areas to change the colour of the foam.
5) Glitter can be added at this stage to create an even more magical unicorn foam.
6) Spend hours of fun playing with this sensory unicorn foam!
Fluffy Slime:
Method:
1) Add the glue and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl and mix well.
2) Add two drops of gel food colouring to the mixture and stir. You can add more drops into the mixture for a more intense colour.
3) Stir in your chosen glitter.
4) Add the contact lens solution and cornflour to the mixture and stir. Continue to add small amounts of cornflour until the sticky slime can be rolled into a ball.
5) If the mixture becomes too dry at any point, add more drops of contact lens solution.
6) Knead the slime ball in your hands until it becomes more pliable
7) Now you can play with your homemade fluffy slime!
Homemade Bubbles:
Method:
1) Pour the water into a large bowl.
2) Add the washing up liquid into the bowl.
3) Stir vigorously to create a frothy mixture.
4) Place either a bubble wand, or a whisk, into the mixture and coat evenly.
5) Next hold the utensil in the air and blow gently on it to produce plenty of magical bubbles!
