KM Charity supports schools by providing pupils with access to greener means of transport and also through book club initiatives that have shown to boost confidence through the reading of books!
Below are two of their regular events that families and schools can get involved with:
Active WoW
Schools involved in this amazing scheme have seen an increase in their pupils walking to school – some more than once a week - with both pupils and parents reporting feeling much better for it.
Almost two-thirds of schools have seen a reduction in congestion at their gates, fewer emissions and cleaner air.
Pupils have felt a positive impact on both their knowledge and performance with more than 43% experiencing improved activity levels. A further
37% report an increased understanding of road-safety, an awareness of keeping themselves safe and also a boost to their independence.
Other benefits from joining the scheme include parents becoming more active with over 53% involving themselves in the school communities. Together - parents, pupils and schools are actively working to make their spaces a greener place.
Active WoW encourages families to walk to school, with classes competing each week to win the ‘Green Class of the Week Trophy’.
There are also monthly inter-school green-travel challenges! Award-winning classes will get the chance to win tickets to leisure attractions or receive visits from celebrity storytellers.

Buster’s Book Club
Thirty-eight schools responded to a survey in July 2019 and reported a 73% increase in pupils reading and, as a result, building confidence in their literacy skills. 76% of pupils report increased motivation to continue reading for pleasure, as well as with 86% of pupils enjoying the club's competitive nature.
Every Wednesday evening, Buster’s Book Club gets children to sit and read, either by themselves or with their parents at home. You can make a fun trip out to your local library to rent books to read for the book club as well!
In schools that participate in the book club classes can compete internally for weekly trophies, and the winners of the monthly inter-school challenges are also rewarded with tickets to leisure attractions or visits from celebrity storytellers.
