Celebrating Maths Week with @teachingdiaries_ !

Maths Week 2022 is upon us and I’ve had the pleasure of having some amazing resources sent from KCS!

First of all, a little introduction! My name is Sophie and I’m a year one teacher based in Preston. I’ve been teaching in year one for the past five years and I absolutely love it!

I teach with a continuous provision style approach. I really love teaching in this style, I believe it’s developmentally appropriate for children in year one. It allows them to learn through exploration and play, which is why resources like the ones I’ve been sent from KCS are so important for my teaching style!

I love to engage children in a play based manner, and these resources have been an absolute hit with my year one children!

I have been sent the ‘number tray operations’ and the ‘felt ball numbers pack’. The children have loved exploring their numbers and these resources have really helped with our numbers to 10!

Maths is such an important subject and is so  integral to creating independent thinkers of the  future! Having creative and play-based approach to maths (and all learning!) will encourage children and generate a love for learning that some children may not already have. Nurturing children’s attitudes towards maths is so important. As practitioners we have a job to reduce the “maths-anxiety” that some children have, and a great way of doing this is having a fun and inquisitive approach to your maths planning.

If you want to adopt a play-based approach to your maths lessons, make sure you look at the amazing resources on KCS. For some inspiration make sure to visit my Instagram page @teachingdiaries_

I hope you have a fabulous time trying out some creative maths activities during this year’s Maths Week!
