How Classroom Furniture Aids Learning

As schools begin welcoming back flurries of pupils, the excitement of escaping the four walls we had become all too well-acquainted with is equally met by the underlying anxiety of missed lessons and work, for teachers parents and children alike. To ease this transition, and get learning back to where it should be, we can offer classroom furniture that promotes efficient learning, while adding to the overall classroom aesthetic.

Providing information

Due to the overwhelming nature of returning to the classroom after quite some time, measures must be taken to ensure everyone is kept in the loop, particularly due to the compulsory Government guidelines and information. Consider implementing tools such as directional whiteboard signs, a light-hearted offering in various shapes to get everyone to where they need to be in a systematic manner.

Organisation is key

Attention must also be directed to within the classroom environment itself to provide children with space they associate with learning. It was found in a study by Barrett (2015) based on 157 UK classrooms on the ‘appropriate level of stimulation that the overall room layout and displays must be stimulating, but in balance with a degree of order, with clutter being named as a limiting factor in pupils’ attainment. The range of Colourbox furniture fits this spec, combining the ability to store various resources with a vast array of colour combinations; making it the perfect accent to any classroom.

Emphasis on collaborative learning

Many children have missed out on the social aspect school brings, and this also translates into their learning. Collaborative learning allows children to consider other perspectives, and bounce ideas off each other in turn widening their knowledge base.  And despite tireless efforts from parents at home, nothing quite compares to the classroom hustle and bustle. A tool for allowing children this time is the Mobile tilting whiteboards, perfect for allowing pupils to collaborate on an idea together, maximising usage with a whiteboard on each side.

Balance is needed for isolated learning

Despite the craving for social interaction, children require balance in the form of breakout zones to encourage quieter, individual-based learning. A way of facilitating this is to implement several BusyScreen Room Dividers to create a corner or area for this style of learning, giving children a dedicated space they can resort to. These dividers are also able to be transported if space is needed in the classroom for lessons and activities.
